This video show you how to install Linux to a USB stick. This is a fantastic way to try out Linux. The first part of the video shows using a free third party program to set this up. Sadly, when I did the video, the Ubuntu install on the usb failed. I think it was an issue with the third party software. Puppy Linux did work, so depending on what distro you go with, your mileage may vary.
The second method in the video worked like a charm. However, it will require a live cd and a usb stick. The first method only requires a usb stick.
